The Joy of Amber

Amber is a beautiful versatile stone which has not only been used in jewellery for years but has also been used as charms and amulets by many different cultures throughout history.

Roman warriors wore mail studded with Amber for luck and would often burn it as an incense, believing it to have healing powers. Amber beads and amulets have been found in stone age tombs along the Baltic coast, in Ireland, England and even as far as the Adriatic. The Greeks called Amber "electron" as they discovered that if it was rubbed against cloth it produced sparks which attracted small particles.

The healing power of Amber has been noted by many scholers over the ages with Hippocrates declaring Amber active against a number of diseases including delirium tremens. Martin Luther carried a piece of Amber in his pocket to protect against kidney stones and in 79 AD Pliny wrote about northern Italian women who wore amber beads to protect agianst thyroid disease.

Today Amber paste is sold in herbalist shops in Poland to alleviate rheumatic ailments, and wearing Amber bracelets and beads is still considered beneficial.

Amber is a great stone for a jeweller to work with and lends itself to many beautiful, unique designs. It has a wonderful texture which is warm and pleasant to touch and every piece of Amber will be unique. With this in mind when are you getting your piece of Amber?

Here at Silver Moon we believe in new beginnings and living life to the full! That is why this year Denise and Wal have decided to head off on our travels for a while. We will be heading off to Europe for the first few months in our camper van and then moving East to India and South East Asia.

Fun & Flowing Yoga!!

My Yoga classes are fun and flowing, with a strong focus on allignment and body awareness.

I am a fully trained Sun-power Yoga (with thanks to Anne-Marie Newland),Yoga Alliance International 200 hrs and REPS level 3 teacher and have also trained with the British Wheel of Yoga under Jan Wilding (FC1 & 2). My own personal practice is influenced by many forms of Hatha yoga, including Astanga for stamina/strength (with thanks to Tony Wilmott)and Iyengar Yoga for body allignment, as well as the gentler teachings of T.K.V Desikachar (with thanks to Maureen Hill). I have also recently become very influenced by Yin and Anasura Yoga which I have found have brought more meditative aspects to my practice. And Jivamukti Yoga for strength and stamina

My classes are all mixed ability and I enourage my students to work with their own bodies, focusing on finding their own still points within their practice and allowing the breath to move the body and still the mind. We work with Pranayama (breath control), Asana (postures) which we link together in the first half of the class using flowing sequences to create a gentle healing internal heat (agni), then a cooler more reflective second half consists of floor based asana's held for longer periods of time. My classes always end with a lovely relaxation/meditation to calm yet energise the mind and body and which allows the effects of the practice to take place.

We work to music and I encourage students to work with blocks and straps if necessary. I will always modify postures where needed so that every student can work to their own ability.

Beginners are always welcome as are more experienced Yogi's. So if it's stress relief you are looking for, or more flexibility to your body, or just a meeting with like-minded people please feel free to drop in to a class and see for yourself how Yoga can benefit your life. Om Shanti x
